Ensenada, Mexico: a processing line installed and running
SSG designed, fabricated, procured and installed a complete red-seaweed processing line for a new factory in Baja California. It went live in August 2024, and in 2026 we were invited back to triple its output.
The brief
In spring 2024 our Head of Engineering was brought in, on a vendor recommendation, to design, fabricate, procure, customize and install a complete processing line for a venture-capital-backed seaweed company building a new factory in Baja California, Mexico.
What the line had to solve
The feedstock was a red marine macroalgae with its own handling profile. The system had to deal with bulk material handling, very high dilution, liquid/solid separation, pasteurization and stabilization — and each of those steps changes how the one before it has to be configured.
Live in August 2024
The complete line was installed and went live in August 2024. What came off it was a commercial product that filled existing orders in the global agricultural market.
Phase II: three times the output
In 2026 SSG was invited back for a phase II buildout to increase production by 3× — the clearest measure of how the first installation performed.
